I rarely finish a movie on a plane, mainly because I fall asleep within sixty seconds of getting to my seat. I once sat in between two people who were traveling together. I offered to switch but neither wanted to sit in the middle. I plopped my chin into my hand and was out before the rest of the plane even boarded. The two people talked over me for the rest of the flight, so you tell me who the weird one was in that scenario.
I’ll be taking four flights this September, and while I look forward to getting some good old-fashioned rest while in the friendly skies, I’m endlessly curious about what those of you who manage to stay awake on planes watch. What makes a good airplane movie? What’s your best story about an inflight cinematic experience? What do you think about the GoGo inflight menu? I want to know!
My strongest plane memory is watching the show Sleepy Hollow, becoming convinced that this was my new favorite show and possibly the greatest show of all time, and then trying to watch it later that week on solid ground and thinking, “What the fuck is this, why is Ichabod Crane a cop?”
Reply, comment, or fill this out, and maybe I’ll share a couple when I’m back at my desk this October. Do not let me down, Deeper Into Movies nation. I will come into the audience if I have to.
the ideal airplane movie, to me, is a three-out-of-five-stars light action comedy, one that i wouldn't seek out to watch on the ground. something engaging enough to burn two hours while not being so engaging that i can't also poke at my phone or order a drink, and something not so badly made that i'm mad at it but not so well made that it's a shame to waste it on a tiny screen partially drowned out by engine noise.
I like to watch the latest animated movie. I also love watching movies over people's shoulders - especially action movies and Bollywood
